When it comes to bone health, most people immediately think of calcium supplements or dairy products. However, some traditional Indian ingredients can naturally support stronger bones while offering a variety of essential nutrients. Nutritionist Kiran Kukreja recently highlighted a wholesome Ragi Gond Porridge recipe that combines the goodness of ragi, gond, aliv seeds and coconut into a comforting meal packed with nourishment.
Why Ragi Deserves A Place In Your Diet:
Ragi, also known as finger millet, is widely known for its impressive calcium content, making it a popular choice for those looking to support bone strength naturally. Sprouted ragi flour is particularly beneficial as it enhances nutrient absorption and makes the grain easier to digest.
In this porridge, ragi serves as the star ingredient, providing a nutritious base while delivering sustained energy throughout the day.
Power-Packed Ingredients For Bone Health:
The recipe combines several traditional ingredients known for their nutritional benefits. Gond, or edible gum, is commonly consumed during winters and is often associated with supporting joint and bone health. Aliv seeds, also known as garden cress seeds, are rich in iron, calcium and essential nutrients.
Grated coconut contributes healthy fats, while dates powder naturally sweetens the dish without the need for refined sugar. A teaspoon of desi cow ghee not only enhances the flavour but also helps improve nutrient absorption.
How To Prepare The Porridge:
To make the porridge, start by heating one teaspoon of ghee in a pan and roasting three tablespoons of sprouted ragi flour on a low flame for about five to six minutes until aromatic.
Gradually add one and a half cups of water or milk while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Once the mixture begins to thicken, add one and a half tablespoons of dates powder, one tablespoon of grated coconut, one teaspoon of soaked aliv seeds and one tablespoon of crushed fried gond.
Cook the mixture for another one to two minutes. A pinch of cardamom can be added for extra flavour. Serve warm.
A Comforting And Nutritious Choice:
Whether enjoyed as a wholesome breakfast, an evening snack or a post-workout meal, this ragi gond porridge is both nourishing and satisfying. With a combination of calcium-rich and nutrient-dense ingredients, Nutritionist Kiran Kukreja's recipe is a simple way to add more bone-friendly foods to your daily routine while enjoying a comforting bowl of goodness.
