Sunny Leone has recently shared a video on her Instagram, where one can see her embracing her inner child and jumping on a trampoline. As she jumped up and down in glee, the clear joy on her face was visible. She captioned the video, “This is so much fun."

But did you know that rebounding, which is what jumping on a trampoline is called in the world of exercise, can be a wonderful full-body workout?

Trampolining is a NASA-Recommended Exercise

NASA, in 1980, conducted a study where they found that a quick 10 minutes of rebounding was up to 68% more effective than 30 minutes of jogging. They studied eight participants, who walked and ran on a treadmill at four speeds and jumped on a trampoline at four heights. The results found that trampolining placed more physical stress on participants' bodies – muscles, bones and joints – than the treadmill did, despite their hearts and breathing working at the same level for both, reported an article by Women's Health.

The study found that the rate of oxygen consumption was ‘sometimes more than twice as efficient as treadmill running'. This meant that participants could use the same amount of oxygen to produce twice the amount of work on a trampoline. Recovery times were also quicker.

Rebounding is Great for Lymphatic Drainage:

A buzzword that was constantly heard this year on social media was ‘lymphatic drainage'. Whether it was getting special vibrating equipment to stimulate the drain, using torture-level tools or going for full body massages that help it, people adopted several techniques to further this goal.

But What Is This All About?

The lymphatic system plays a crucial role in maintaining our body's immune defence by removing toxins, waste, and other unwanted materials. Unlike the blood circulation system, this doesn't have a central pump like the heart and relies on muscle movements, gravitational forces, and breathing to help in the drainage. Excess fluid build-up can happen due to vessel compression, constriction, or blockage, leading to localised oedema. By engaging in specific exercises like trampolining, one can significantly enhance lymphatic drainage, promoting overall health and well-being.

When jumping, the up-and-down motion stimulates the lymphatic system, helping the body flush out toxins and strengthen immunity. The gentle bouncing motion creates a pumping effect, which aids in the removal of toxins.

Jumping on a Trampoline Can Be Good on the Joints:

For people suffering from joint pain, like lupus and arthritis, rebounding makes for a great low-impact exercise and is unlike the high-impact workouts that may put stress on your joints. The springy surface of a mini trampoline absorbs shock and reduces the strain on your knees, hips, and spine. A study published in the Journal of Orthopaedic & Sports Physical Therapy found that rebounding can be an effective way to improve joint health without aggravating arthritis symptoms.
