Potatoes are a lovable vegetable in many houses. Lots of vegetables are incomplete without a mixture of potatoes. Also, Potatoes are filled with crucial health-beneficial elements such as potassium, carbohydrates, and fiber, making them a good choice for a healthy diet. But what happens if these potatoes become the reason for your bad health? How? Let's understand.
It is very common in houses that people store their potatoes in the fridge, thinking it will increase their shelf life. But, according to Ryan Fernando, a famous health coach and nutritionist, this common tradition can lead to unwanted health effects. When potatoes are stored in cool temperatures, the glycogen within them converts into sugar. When you cook these potatoes they make a chemical called acrylamide. As per research, this chemical contains cancer symptoms that badly affect human health.
Here Ryan Fernando shares some points to store potatoes in a good and safely manner.
Store: Store your raw potatoes in open and cool places such as a pantry or in a cellar instead of the fridge. This open and fresh environment helps prevent the cellulose from converting into sugar. Due to this, you can prevent your potatoes for at least 2 or 3 months.
Avoid Plastic Bags: Plastic bags contain thousands of harmful chemicals which are very bad for our health. We have to avoid plastic bags as they trap moisture and promote pattern growth. Switch your plastic bags with paper bags or penetrate bags that offer proper airflow, keeping your potatoes dry and free from decay.
Keep Away from Onions: Onions contain ethylene gas, which can step up the rot of nearby produce, including potatoes. That's why you keep your potatoes away from onions.
It's very essential to store raw potatoes correctly. When you cook or boil potatoes you can be safely stored in the fridge because the cooking process removes the risk of danger. You can prepare your favorite potato dishes in advance and enjoy them all over the week without any worries.
