Popular travel creator Ankita Kumar has recently took her followers on a very mesmerizing journey to Tonlé Sap, the largest freshwater lake in the Southeast Asia and also a home to the biggest floating village in the whole world.
In a very captivating video, she has shared a much rare glimpse into a community where almost everything- homes, schools, churches, and even the grocery stores- floats on water only.
A Life Entirely on Water-
Located in Cambodia, Tonlé Sap is a home to about more than 500 families who have adapted to a lifestyle fully synchronized with the overall rhythm of the lake. As Ankita documented, the entire village is wholly built on stilts and the floating platforms, with boats as the only means of transportation.
“It's very wild to think that people have always been living like this for many generations, completely off the land,” Ankita has shared.
Floating Schools, Shops & Daily Life-
Children here usually don't take buses, they row some canoes to the school. Mobile grocery shops float from house to house delivering the daily essentials. Families fish for a better living, and almost every aspect of life is deeply interconnected to water.
Ankita was especially quite amazed at how much clean and well-maintained the floating village actually was, calling it one of the most fascinating communities that she's ever visited in her whole life.
The Monsoon Miracle-
What makes the Tonlé Sap even much more unique is its entire seasonal transformation. During the monsoon, the lake expands up to five times in its size, reshaping the whole ecosystem and the way that people interact with it. Despite all of this, the floating village remains very resilient, functional, and stunningly pretty.
Why You Must Visit Tonlé Sap-
Ankita Kumar strongly recommends this offbeat experience as a worth-see in Cambodia. It's not just a normal travel destination, but it's a perfect chance to witness an entire civilization floating in complete harmony with the nature.
