From buzzing streets and steaming bowls of local food to misty mountains and dramatic limestone landscapes, Northern Vietnam can feel like several journeys packed into one. Travel influencer Isa Khan has shared a 13-day itinerary that covers Hanoi, Ninh Binh, Ha Long Bay, Sapa, the Ha Giang Loop and Cao Bang.

Begin With Hanoi:

Isa Khan's itinerary starts in Hanoi. Travellers can use the first day to experience the city's energetic atmosphere, wander through the Old Quarter, explore local markets and sample street food. Hanoi's cafes are another addition to the day before heading towards Vietnam's quieter countryside.

Discover Ninh Binh:

Days two and three are reserved for Ninh Binh, which Isa notes is around two hours from Hanoi. Tam Coc's countryside and boat rides are among the major experiences on his itinerary. Travellers can also head to Mua Cave for its impressive viewpoint and surrounding scenery.

Cruise Through Ha Long Bay:

On day four, the journey continues to Ha Long Bay. Isa recommends a day cruise through the destination's famous limestone islands. He spent one day here and describes the experience as worth including in the itinerary.

Explore Sapa's Mountains:

Days five to seven take travellers to Sapa, a mountain destination known for striking landscapes. Isa suggests exploring its rice terraces and villages while taking in the surrounding mountain scenery.

Fansipan is another important stop on his itinerary. Known as the highest mountain in Indochina, it adds another memorable experience to the Sapa leg.

Experience the Ha Giang Loop:

Days eight to eleven are dedicated to the Ha Giang Loop. Isa describes it as one of Vietnam's most unforgettable experiences, with winding mountain roads, dramatic valleys and remote villages.

He suggests taking a three to four-day motorbike tour and reminds travellers not to forget an International Driving Permit.

End The Journey In Cao Bang:

For the final two days, Isa recommends Cao Bang Province. Ban Gioc Waterfall, located near the Chinese border, is the main attraction here.

Travellers can also explore Nguom Ngao Cave and its striking limestone formations. After almost two weeks, the itinerary wraps up with a mix of cities, countryside, mountains, waterfalls and some spectacular road-trip scenery.
