Watching strands collect on your hairbrush or bathroom drain can feel alarming. For many women, hair fall has become a common concern driven by stress, lifestyle habits, pollution, and frequent styling. In a recent episode of the 'All About Her' podcast, Soha Ali Khan sat down with actor Kritika Kamra and celebrity hairstylist Yianni Tsapatori to break down what is normal and what needs attention.
Understanding What's Normal:
One of the first questions the trio addressed was how much hair fall is actually normal. Tsapatori explained that losing between 50 and 100 strands a day is expected. However, he advised being more mindful of any sudden increase. “I think you need to be a little bit more careful with and be more observant about what happens,” he said, suggesting that regular scalp checks at a salon can help identify the root cause early.
The Right Way To Wash Your Hair:
A major part of hair health lies in how you wash it. Tsapatori highlighted that shampoo should be applied only to the scalp using fingertips, while also ensuring the crown area is not neglected. Addressing a common myth, he said, “Not necessarily,” when asked if shampoo needs to sit for a few minutes. Instead, he encouraged a gentle and mindful approach.

“I think that doing the simplest things ever is the best way to go about it. You don't have to leave the shampoo on it. Just take your time. Massage your scalp as much as possible. Make sure that you're cleaning your hair because a lot of residue is there. Like, I'm talking not only about products; I'm talking about pollution as well.”
He also advised avoiding very hot water and suggested a filtered water rinse for better results.
Simple Routines For Stronger Hair:
Preventing hair fall does not require complicated routines. Tsapatori recommended sticking to the right products instead of constantly switching. “One tip that I can give you is to get the right shampoo. Don't keep on changing shampoos. Don't play around all the time.”
He further added that using a hair mask immediately after shampooing helps nourish the strands when the cuticles are open. Following it with a conditioner locks in hydration. At the same time, he warned against overusing products and stressed the importance of identifying actual hair concerns before using treatments.
The takeaway is simple. Healthy hair starts with consistent care, gentle handling, and understanding what your hair truly needs.
