Are you eating healthy, and exercising regularly, yet still not losing weight? Don't worry! Simran Khosla, a nutrition coach shares several reasons why this is happening. Read further for some insights that will help you understand and overcome this difficulty.
1. You are not in a true calorie deficit
You could be taking in extra calories than what your body requires even if you are consuming clean. Therefore, you must be certain that you're in the calorie deficit position, which means you burn calories more than you intake.
Solution:
Track all your calories carefully. If there is no change in your weight after 1-2 weeks, cut 200-300 calories from your daily intake so as to achieve a better result.
2. Your Metabolism Has Adjusted
Your metabolism will worsen as you age, lose weight, or experience physiological changes due to hormonal balance. This suggests that your body is burning fewer calories than it used to.
Solution:
Increase your daily physical activity by 1-2k steps (a 10- to 20-minute walk) and 2-3 brief cardio workouts per week. Consider reducing your calories by 100-200.
3. You're Gaining Muscle
Sometimes, the number on the scale does not change because you are gaining muscle while losing fat. Muscle is denser than fat, and in the time your body is changing, the scale may not show it.
Solution:
Pay attention to how your clothes fit and how you feel. Trust the process and not just the scale to track your progress.
4. You Are Not Getting Enough Sleep
Lack of sleep can affect your hunger hormone and slow down your metabolism, thus making it difficult to lose weight.
Solution:
Get 7-8 hours of sleep every night. An appropriate sleeping schedule can support your fitness journey.
5. Stress Levels Are High
Chronic stress raises cortisol levels, which can contribute to fat growth, particularly around the abdomen.
Solution:
Bring in some stress-reducing activities such as yoga, or meditation, or take a little time off for yourself during the day.
Remember, weight loss is not a race but a journey. Stay consistent and positive.
