Do you know of a city where most of the land is green, covered with parks, forests, and farmland? Anu Sharma, a travel influencer, tells us about a place called Freiburg in Germany. It is referred to as Europe's "solar city" and is heading toward 100% renewable energy by 2035.
A City Powered by the Sun
Freiburg is popular with its dedication to solar energy. Many houses and buildings in Freiburg have solar panels placed on their rooftops, which further help generate clean energy through the sun's rays. The city is ahead of everyone when it comes to renewable sources because it plans to work exclusively with solar and wind energy over the next few years.
Bike-Friendly Streets and Clean Air
One of the reasons Freiburg is one of the best cities is the bike-friendly streets. This city has 500 kilometers of bike paths, where bicycles are the primary form of transportation. Cars appear to be nearly invisible in some parts of the city. There are fewer cars, cleaner air, and a quieter city, hence a better place to stay.
Effective Public Transport
Several other areas do not require many automobiles in Freiburg because the city has several no-car zones, and generally, people travel on a tram or bus. As a result, public means of transport are highly effective, making it very accessible to travel without using a car. This further promotes less traffic and less pollution.
Sustainable Livability and Historic Charm
Freiburg is not just about clean energy and bikes, but more than that, it presents green buildings and eco-homes. Most of its buildings are designed to minimize energy usage and protect the environment. All these and still more modern features maintained Freiburg's character of historic charm, lovely old buildings, and tight streets.
Would you want to live in a city that combines sustainability with history? Freiburg is one of the examples of how a city can be both green, modern, and enjoyable to live in.
