NohKaLikai Waterfall in Meghalaya looks like a picture from a postcard. It is one of the most stunning locations in India. However, the beauty has a tragic and fearful history. Travel vlogger Aakash Malhotra recently uploaded his tearful experience visiting this location and discovering its history.

The Trek to NohKaLikai Waterfall

Akash began his journey for the famous waterfall with enthusiasm. Local people told him that the best scene is from the first spot. About 3 hours of trekking occurred through a slippery, damp trail. The silence of the forest felt oppressive, as if the trees wanted to talk. As they got closer, the sound of the waterfall was so high that they couldn't even listen to their own thoughts.

The Agony Legend of Likai

According to an old Khasi story, there was a woman called Likai who resided in the neighboring village. She had a daughter whom she love above all else. One day, while Likai was at her workplace, her second husband murdered the child. Worse, he served her as meat and fed her to Likai when she returned home. Upon discovering the truth, she was devastated and leaped off the cliff beside the waterfall.

Why It Is NohKaLikai Waterfall

The word “NohKaLikai” means “the leap of Likai.” Since that day, the waterfall has carried her name and her scream. Aakash says that some places, though beautiful, carry stories that are hard to forget. This is not just a waterfall. It is a reminder of love, pain, and loss.
