A UK-based social media influencer and chartered accountant is in the news after an FIR was registered against him in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. The person at the center of this controversy is Arpit Sharma, who came under the spotlight for his video linking Nepal's recent Gen-Z protests to India's situation.
FIR Filed for Threat to National Unity
According to police, Sharma's now-deleted video was seen as a threat to India's unity, integrity, and sovereignty. Bulandshahr's Superintendent of Police, Shanker Prasad, said Sharma's statements could create unrest in society.
The FIR was filed under Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at Kotwali Nagar police station, based on a complaint by police constable Aslam Malik. The complaint claims that Sharma “deliberately tried to provoke public anger” through his comments and video.
