Onion and garlic are consumed in most Indian households while cooking. But some people say that we shouldn't consume them, especially if we are on a spiritual path. So what is the truth? Digital creator Janhvi Singh explains this in a simple way using the Bhagavad Gita.

What Bhagavad Gita Says About Onion and Garlic

In Chapter 17, Shlokas 5 to 10 of the Bhagavad Gita, Shri Krishna talks about three types of food—Satvik (pure), Rajasik (active), and Tamasik (dull). Janhvi Singh says onion and garlic are Rajasik. That means they can increase feelings like anger, restlessness, and desires. And if you consume them excessively, they turn Tamasik, which may lead to laziness and dullness.

Should We Eat Them or Not?

If you are experiencing that consuming onion and garlic is making you lazy, angry, or distracted spiritually, then it's good not to consume them. Janhvi says it's not about rules. It's about how you feel after consuming them.

But They Are Also Good for Health

Onions and garlic are also healthy. They are used in Ayurveda for helping the heart, digestion, and immune system. So if you consume them in small portions and they don't influence your mind or peace, then you can consume them.

Final Words from Janhvi Singh

At the end, Janhvi clarifies that onion and garlic eating is not a sin. It's your own choice. If they benefit your health and do not interrupt your mind, you can enjoy them. But if they stop your spiritual growth, then avoid them.
