The misuse of artificial intelligence once again came under the spotlight after a deepfake video falsely linked to popular YouTuber Payal Gaming began circulating online. On Sunday, Maharashtra Cyber confirmed that it has detained several individuals and issued notices to others in connection with the case, sending out a strong message against the spread of fake and harmful content.

The cybercrime unit shared the update through an official Instagram post, stating that swift action had been taken against those responsible for uploading and sharing the objectionable video. “Several uploaders have been apprehended, served notices, and have issued public apologies. We have also identified one of the first uploaders of the content, who will be apprehended soon,” the post read.

Along with the statement, Maharashtra Cyber also posted visuals of the accused and videos showing them apologizing publicly. The agency made it clear that misuse of technology, especially content that damages someone's reputation, will not be tolerated.

What action did Maharashtra Cyber take?

According to officials, multiple people involved in circulating the deep-fake video were tracked down and questioned. In one of the apology videos shared online, an accused named Abhishek Jadaun admitted to reposting the link to the video on his Instagram story without checking its authenticity. He said he had been counseled by Maharashtra Cyber and accepted that his actions had harmed Payal Gaming's reputation. Expressing regret, he promised not to repeat such behavior in the future.

How Did The Fake Video Go Viral?

Last month, an intimate video of a couple began circulating widely on social media platforms. Several users falsely claimed that the woman seen in the clip was Payal Gaming. While the video spread rapidly, many netizens came forward to question its authenticity, pointing out that the visuals appeared to be AI-generated and did not resemble the YouTuber.

As the rumors grew, Payal received widespread support from her followers, who urged people not to believe unverified content and called out the dangers of deepfake technology.

What Did Payal Gaming Say?

Soon after the controversy erupted, Payal issued a clear statement denying any connection to the viral clip. She confirmed that the individual seen in the video was not her and announced that she would take legal action against those misusing her identity and image.

Maharashtra Cyber, meanwhile, reiterated its commitment to protecting individuals from online abuse and warned users to think twice before sharing unverified content. The case has once again highlighted how easily deepfake videos can cause harm, and why strict action is necessary to curb their spread.
