The controversy began after Aly was seen not chanting ‘Ganpati Bappa Morya' during a Ganesh Chaturthi celebration in Mumbai. While Jasmin didn't react to the controversy, Aly Goni later appeared on a podcast with Filmygyan and explained that his silence was due to his religious beliefs. He also opened up about the intense hate and threats he has received.

"I didn't even realise it. I was lost in my thoughts. I never imagined something like this could create such a big issue. This was my first time attending Ganpati celebrations… I usually don't go. I didn't know what exactly I was supposed to do there, and I always worry that I might unintentionally do something wrong," he said.

Reacting to the backlash, he said, "I am receiving death threats nonstop. My emails are flooded; people are tweeting asking for an FIR against me—for what? Those who are giving threats or abusing Jasmin—if any of them have the courage, let them come in front of me and say it. I swear on God, I will cut their neck and give it to them in their hand."
