- Social media played a key role in success
Actor, entrepreneur and content creator Parul Gulati has revealed how she built her hair extension brand Nish Hair into a business worth around Rs 50 crore after starting with just Rs 5,000. During a recent conversation with Divya Jain, Parul opened up about the challenges, risks and unconventional strategies that helped transform a simple idea into one of India's most recognised founder-led brands.
Founded in 2017, Nish Hair was created to address a problem that many people were hesitant to discuss openly at the time. Parul identified a gap in the Indian market for accessible and stigma-free hair solutions and decided to take the leap.
The Beginning Of Nish Hair:
Parul shared that her entrepreneurial journey began while she was still working as an actor. Inspired by a woman who successfully balanced a job, modelling assignments and her own business, she became determined to launch something of her own.
"It all started with a lot of passion, a lot of ideas," she said, recalling how she began the venture with just Rs 5,000. Reflecting on her journey, she added, "How I got here, God has only witnessed." At a time when hair extensions were rarely discussed in India, Parul aimed to make hair solutions affordable, accessible and socially acceptable.

Social Media Became Her Biggest Asset:
Without the budget for celebrity endorsements, Parul decided to become the face of her brand. Armed with only a mobile phone, she consistently created content and interacted directly with potential customers online.
"I was posting so much from morning to night," she said. A strong believer in founder-led content, Parul explained that customers often connect more with the person behind a brand than with traditional advertising. Even today, she jokes, "I am the marketing department. I don't give them a budget because I just make reels."
From First Sale To Big Growth:
Before Nish Hair became a recognised brand, Parul personally stitched and sold hair extensions. Her first customer took a month to convert after multiple product revisions.
"My first sale took a full month to convert," she recalled. Looking back, Parul believes execution is the key to success. "I think an idea is only good if it gets executed; otherwise, it's just a useless thought in your head."
Lessons For Entrepreneurs:
Parul also reflected on her experience on 'Shark Tank India' and shared advice for aspiring founders. According to her, consistency, confidence and quick execution matter more than overthinking.
"The best way to kill any idea is to ask 10 people," she said. Today, Nish Hair stands as a testament to how passion, persistence and smart use of social media can turn a small investment into a thriving business.
