- Should you stay or let go?
It hurts when friends tease you or do not even talk to you, especially when you attempt to talk to them. Princy Jain, a psychologist, explains that no one needs to go through this. Having a friendship end or discovering that it is not as solid as you believed can be painful. Rather than asking, "How do I repair this?" ask yourself questions about the friendship that are a little more profound.
Think about Your Friendship
Instead of rushing to fix things, spend some time to think. Ask yourself:
- Why am I investing my time into this friendship?
- Does this friendship give me trust, love, belonging, or support?
It's normal to feel scared about letting go, but holding onto something that no longer serves you can prevent better relationships from coming into your life.
Steps to Navigate a Struggling Friendship
If you're finding yourself in such a situation, here's what you can do:
- Acknowledge your feelings– It's all right to be hurt, confused, or even guilty. Your emotions are justified, and it's necessary to acknowledge them.
- Assess the friendship– Is this individual a positive influence on your life, or do they leave you drained?
- Set boundaries– If an individual consistently disregards your feelings, it's all right to distance yourself from the relationship.
- Remember: You deserve healthy relationships– True friendship is supposed to feel safe, mutual, and nurturing.
- Create space for better relationships– Releasing what no longer works for you creates space for relationships that value you.
It takes time to heal from harmful friendships, but remember that putting yourself first is worthwhile. You deserve friends that bring happiness, trust, and love into your life.
