Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar is once again urging people to move away from quick fixes and extreme diets, and instead adopt a long-term, balanced approach to weight loss. In a recent Instagram video, she highlighted that the biggest mistake people make is rushing the process.

“Number one: do not be in a hurry or haste. Lose weight comfortably. Whether you want to lose 2 kg or 20 kg, the approach should be the same: it should be sensible and sustainable. Sustainable means losing 5 to 10% of your body weight in a year,” she said.

Rujuta emphasised that gradual weight loss not only protects overall health but also improves skin, hair and mood. According to her, slow progress ensures better immunity and reduces the risk of lifestyle diseases.

Eat Traditional, Eat Local:

One of her strongest recommendations is to return to traditional eating habits instead of blindly following global diet trends or rigid nutrient charts.

“The second rule is that the diet you follow should be based on food-based dietary guidelines. Food-based dietary guidelines are a gold standard in nutrition science,” she explained.

Highlighting the diversity of Indian cuisine, she added, “This means your diet should include the traditional food that you have always been eating. Whether you eat dal-rice, idli-dosa, chicken and rice, or fish, your diet should be built accordingly.”

Rujuta also warned against over-analysing meals in terms of nutrients like protein or fibre. She believes such practices often benefit the food industry more than the individual. Instead, she encouraged people to trust cultural food practices that have stood the test of time.

Trust The Process, Not Shortcuts:

The nutritionist also addressed the growing number of viral diet trends and “magic” weight loss solutions circulating online. She made it clear that there is no shortcut to good health.

“The third thing you must keep in mind is that there should be no 'magic ingredient' in your diet. This means there should be no advice suggesting you skip dinner to drink a specific shake, or wake up and take a fenugreek shot, gond katira, or turmeric and ginger shot,” she said.

She further added, “There should be no magic products; the magic is in the process. Which process? The one of regularity and consistency.”

Rujuta concluded by reminding people that true health lies in simple, sustainable habits rooted in everyday life. Her advice is clear. Eat what suits your body, stay consistent, and let the results follow naturally.
