Navratri is widely celebrated across India with fasting, prayers, music and festivities. However, spiritual leader Sadhguru believes the nine-day festival goes far beyond rituals and celebrations. According to him, Navratri is an opportunity for self-reflection, inner growth and transformation.

As devotees prepare for Sharad Navratri 2026, which begins on October 11 and concludes on October 19, Sadhguru's teachings offer a deeper perspective on the significance of the nine sacred nights and what they represent in a person's spiritual journey.

Three Phases Of Navratri:

Sadhguru explains Navratri through three fundamental qualities known as tamas, rajas and sattva. Each of these qualities is associated with a three-day phase of the festival and represents a different aspect of human nature. According to him, these qualities exist in varying proportions within every individual and influence the way people think, feel and act. The nine nights provide an opportunity to observe and understand these dimensions more consciously.

First Three Days And The Power Of Tamas:

The opening three days of Navratri are associated with Goddess Durga and Goddess Kali, as well as the quality of tamas. Sadhguru describes tamas as being closely connected to the Earth, birth and stillness. During this phase, individuals can reflect on their physical existence and their connection with nature. Sadhguru believes that recognising the temporary nature of the body can help strengthen one's focus on the spiritual path and encourage a deeper understanding of life.

Middle Three Days And The Energy Of Action:

The next phase of Navratri is linked to Goddess Lakshmi and the quality of rajas. Sadhguru explains that rajas is the force that drives action and movement. He encourages people to examine how consciously they engage with their daily activities. According to him, the same action can either lead to liberation or create further entanglement, depending on the level of awareness with which it is performed. These three days are an opportunity to cultivate greater involvement and mindfulness in everyday life.

Final Three Days And The Quest For Knowledge:

The last three days are associated with Goddess Saraswati and the quality of sattva, which relates to wisdom, knowledge and enlightenment. Sadhguru suggests using this period for learning, introspection and gaining clarity. It is a time to step away from constant activity and create space for deeper understanding and inner balance.

Vijayadashami And Going Beyond Limitations:

After the nine nights comes Vijayadashami, which Sadhguru views as the culmination of the spiritual journey. He explains that the tenth day is not merely about acquiring power, wealth or knowledge but about transcending all three qualities.

For Sadhguru, Navratri serves as a reminder that true transformation begins when individuals become more conscious of their thoughts, actions and experiences, making the festival as much an inner journey as a cultural celebration.
