As Mahāśivarātri approaches, many devotees seek ways to honour Lord Shiva with pure intention and heartfelt devotion. Astro influencer Bhavesh Bhimanathani explains that performing a Parthiv Shivling Puja at home is one of the most powerful remedies for cleansing karmas, inviting peace, and strengthening spiritual energy. Here's a simple, devotion‑filled guide to performing this sacred ritual correctly.

Preparing the Parthiv Shivling:

According to Bhavesh, the essence of this puja begins with creating the Shivling yourself. Start by taking natural, clean earth, preferably clay or smooth mud, and remove any stones or impurities. Add a little clean water and gently knead it into a soft consistency. Shape this into a Shivling, forming both the base and the Lingam with steady, mindful hands.

Bhavesh emphasises that this process itself is a form of meditation, symbolising surrender and grounding.

Placement and Correct Orientation:

Once your Parthiv Shivling is ready, place it on a clean, sanctified spot. Position a Belpatra beneath it, ensuring the stem faces north. The water outlet (jal dhārā) of the Shivling should also point north, aligning with Shiva's cosmic direction. The devotee, or sadhak, should sit facing the east, as this direction enhances purity, clarity, and divine connection during worship.

Night‑Long Worship on Mahāśivarātri:

Begin your puja as night falls on Mahāśivarātri. Light a diya, invite calmness, and prepare for Abhishekam. Use Panchāmṛta, milk, or even just clean water, Bhavesh notes that devotion is more important than elaborate offerings.

While performing Abhishek, continuously chant the sacred Pañcākṣarī mantra: “Namaḥ Śivāya.”

Offer attar, bhasma, chandan, and fresh flowers with deep reverence. Conclude the ritual with Karpūra Āratī, allowing the fragrance and light to purify the space.

Completion & Visarjan:

On the following morning, gently close the puja with a prayer and pradakṣiṇā. Dissolve the Parthiv Shivling in clean water and return this water to plants or soil. Bhavesh calls this the most crucial step, symbolising that what is created with devotion must return to the earth with gratitude.

Above all, he reminds devotees: perform this ritual with love, surrender, and the right bhav, and everything else flows naturally.
