Uorfi Javed recently slammed a former DD News journalist after a video surfaced online claiming that she had converted to Hinduism and changed her name. Uorfi strongly denied the allegations and accused the content creator of spreading misinformation.
The controversy began when Meeta Chowdry, who describes herself as a former DD News journalist on Instagram, posted a video discussing Uorfi. In the clip, Meeta claimed that Uorfi is famous only for wearing “aadhe nange” clothes and alleged that the actor had changed her name to Rita Bhardwaj after converting from Islam to Hinduism.
“You have now announced that she, who was a Muslim, has changed her name to Rita Bhardwaj. Which means she has converted. She has become a Hindu from a Muslim,” Meeta said in the now-deleted video. She also advised Uorfi to adopt some “laaj lajja” (modesty).
Setting the Record Straight:
Uorfi wasted no time in responding. Sharing the video on her Instagram Stories, she called out the claims and made it clear that neither her name nor her religion had changed.
“Kaise Kaise chomu log apne aap ko journalist bolte hai! Aunty please thoda homework kar Lijiye, i never changed my name or religion also. I don't believe in any religion,” Uorfi wrote.

She further defended her career and took a dig at the creator's remarks about her appearance.
“Also I'm not just nangi with my clothes I'm also nangi with my words but aaj mood nahi hai. Also Ek bar google Karlo how many shows I have to my names, Mujhe aapka Ganda make up dekh k sharam agyi or aap Ki journalism Pe. Burai karni hai karo Bindaas, but don't spread fake news cause I can't do the same to you cause no one cares aunty ji.”
“Aunty Got So Triggered”
The online spat escalated when Uorfi claimed that Meeta sent her several “triggering” messages after being called out publicly.
Sharing screenshots of their exchange, Uorfi wrote, “@meeta chowdhry aunty got so triggered! But still her facts are wrong, I haven't gotten fake boobs. Just because her face looks like sagging ones she's obsessed with boobs.”
She further claimed that the creator later deleted the video and blocked her on social media.
“Aunty sent me extremely triggering msgs which I can't even upload, then deleted the video and blocked me, guys I can't be disrespectful to her, she looks like my daada ji.”
The incident has once again highlighted how quickly misinformation can spread online, with Uorfi using her platform to rebut claims she says are entirely false firmly.
