Sunil Pal Opens Up About His Experience On Kapil Show

Comedian Sunil Pal recently spoke about his experience on The Great Indian Kapil Show, where he appeared with modern stand-up comedians like Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia. The episode became a big topic online after Sunil was repeatedly roasted during the show. Many viewers debated whether it was a friendly comedy or if he was unfairly targeted.

At first, Sunil said he understood the comedy format and was not upset. But later, he admitted that the overall experience was not what he had expected.

Sunil Says He Was Invited for a Stand-Up Performance

Sunil shared that he was originally called to perform a proper stand-up segment and not just for a conversation or interview. He revealed that he had prepared a fifteen-minute comedy sketch, which was approved by the show's director, Anukul. However, things changed after he reached the set and learned that Samay Raina and Ranveer Allahbadia would also be part of the episode.

According to Sunil, because of the changed format, he never got the chance to perform his full act. He said, “I was told to come and do a stand-up segment there, not even an interview.”

Sunil also claimed that several of his jokes were removed before the episode was aired.

While speaking to a YouTuber, Sunil explained that he felt the atmosphere on the set became one sided. He said his jokes did not receive natural laughter, while even smaller jokes from others got loud reactions. He compared the situation to Abhimanyu from the Mahabharata, saying he felt trapped and surrounded.

Sunil also questioned whether some audience reactions during the shoot were being influenced intentionally. He mentioned that even Navjot Singh Sidhu praised one of Samay Raina's jokes by saying, “Too good, you are the next Kapil.”

Sunil Questions Audience Reactions on Comedy Shows

Sunil further spoke about audience behaviour on comedy shows. He said that reactions do not always feel natural and sometimes appear inconsistent. He pointed out that even Archana Puran Singh did not react to certain jokes during the episode.

Earlier too, Sunil had criticised shows like India's Got Latent, saying that some modern comedy content has become too bold in language and style.
