The much-beloved Shinchan cartoon is far more controversial than we ever thought, and some curious, eye-opening facts are yet to be discovered by people worldwide!

Content creator Shivanshu Agrawal has recently provided many lesser-known and interesting realities of Shinchan, which is highly revered by everyone, especially among kids.

This worldwide revered cartoon Shinchan, wasn't originally meant for children at all! What millions of Indian kids grew up watching was actually started off as an adult satire in Japan.

Originally published in 1990 in the Weekly Manga Action magazine, Shinchan was featured as a 5-year-old boy, especially known for his double-meaning jokes, flirty behavior with women, and even for body-shaming remarks. The TV adaptation began in 1992 and quickly became a global hit, but only with Japan's adult audience, not the kids.

In India, Shinchan was first aired on Hungama TV in 2006 and became an overnight sensation among children. However, the problems followed just as much quickly. Indian children soon began mimicking Shinchan's rude and inappropriate behavior, leading to some major complaints from parents and teachers.

In 2008, the show was fully banned in India.

But that wasn't the final end, Shinchan made a comeback in 2009 with a censored version, edited for the Indian kids. The adult content was fully cut, the mother character became more stricter, and the key terms were perfectly toned down- “wine” was changed to “juice”.
