Reem Shaikh Breaks Silence on Trolling for Not Commenting on Ahmedabad Plane Crash: "I Was Called Anti-National"

Social media personality and actor Reem Shaikh faced severe trolling after a video of her response to a paparazzi's question about the Ahmedabad plane crash surfaced and quickly went viral. On June 12, tragedy struck when a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner en route from Ahmedabad to London's Gatwick Airport crashed just moments after takeoff at approximately 1:38 p.m., resulting in the loss of over 200 lives. Reem Shaikh faced heavy criticism for appearing unaware and not acknowledging the Air India disaster while present on the sets of 'Laughter Chefs 2'.

Reem on Trolling for Not Commenting on Ahmedabad Plane Crash:

In a recent podcast with HindiRush, she addressed the controversy and shared that she was targeted with online abuse following the incident. Reem Shaikh expressed that the situation deeply affected her, especially since her own sister works as a flight attendant with Air India. Even though she was truly worried, she said she consciously chose not to portray herself as a victim.

Responding to the viral video, Reem said, "Uss waqt joh hua, bahot fast hua. Mein set pe aayi, aur kisi ne poocha, 'Kal ke baare mein batao?' It was such a random question. Subah-subah jab aap 7:30 baje uth ke set par aate ho, ek ghante ke andar tayyar hoke, 4-5 log aapke sir pe ghoom rahe hote hain... your mind is absent."

"I Was Abused..."

She further shared, "Uske baad aap mujhe gaali do, bolo insensitive, deshdrohi—go ahead. But just because maine media ke saamne dukhi chehra nahi rakha, that does not mean I didn't go through something, or that I didn't feel bad about what happened. You might not know humne kya face kiya, because my sister flies for that airline. Jab woh news aayi, media pe spread hone se pehle mujhe 10-12 calls aa chuke the, asking about my sister. What I experienced... they might not even know."

Reem shared that she was heavily trolled online, with many users leaving hateful comments. Some even labeled her a 'Deshdrohi' and said things like, 'Isko Pakistan bhejo.'

She added about the trolling she faced, "Bahot gandi-gandi gaaliyan likhi thi. Bahot bura bola tha. DMs mein bhi log peecha nahi chod rahe the, buri baatein likh rahe the. Main hairaan ho gayi thi. Maine actually trolling kya hoti hai, woh face kiya."
