- Childhood exposure to violence shaped strong life decisions
Popular stand-up comedian and Bigg Boss 17 winner Munawar Faruqui recently opened up about the hardships of his childhood and how those early experiences shaped his life choices. In a recent conversation, he reflected on his upbringing, his father's struggles, and the lessons he carried forward.
A Father's Fear, A Son's Reality
Munawar shared that his father worked as a driver for over three decades but never encouraged him to learn driving. At the time, it felt restrictive, but as he grew older, he understood the deeper reason behind it. His father feared that learning the skill might push him into the same profession out of necessity, something he didn't want for his son.
Childhood Marked by Responsibility
Life was far from easy. Munawar revealed that he started working at just nine years old and had to leave school by the age of eleven. Long working hours became a norm, often stretching up to 12–14 hours a day. These early responsibilities taught him the weight of providing for a family and shaped his understanding of struggle and perseverance.

Growing Up Around Harsh Realities
Recalling his surroundings, Munawar spoke about witnessing troubling incidents during his childhood, including frequent domestic violence in his neighborhood. Living so close to such situations left a strong impression on him. Instead of pulling him in the wrong direction, these experiences became a turning point.
Choosing a Different Path
What he saw growing up made him consciously distance himself from alcohol and drugs. Munawar explained that witnessing the damaging effects of addiction firsthand made him determined to avoid that path entirely. He credits those harsh realities for helping him make better life choices.
Munawar considers himself fortunate in an unusual way believing that seeing people struggle and suffer early in life helped him understand what to avoid. While he acknowledges the role of faith, he also sees it as life's way of showing him the consequences of certain choices, ultimately guiding him toward a better path.
