A heavy meal, irregular eating habits, or eating too quickly can leave many people dealing with bloating, gas, acidity, and an uncomfortable feeling in the stomach. While over-the-counter remedies are often the first choice, some traditional kitchen ingredients have long been used to support digestion naturally.
Nutritionist Kiran Kukreja recently shared a simple homemade digestive mix that combines everyday spices and herbs known for their digestive properties. Easy to prepare and store, this blend can be a handy addition to your wellness routine.
Ingredients For The Digestive Mix:
The recipe brings together a combination of roasted spices and herbs that are commonly used in Indian households:
- 30 grams roasted fennel seeds (saunf)
- 20 grams roasted cumin seeds (jeera)
- 10 grams roasted carom seeds (ajwain)
- 10 grams roasted coriander seeds (dhania)
- 10 grams dried pomegranate seed powder (anardana)
- 2 teaspoons dried mint powder
- 2 teaspoons rock salt
- 2 teaspoons cardamom powder
- 2 teaspoons hing (asafoetida)
All the ingredients need to be ground into a fine powder and stored in an airtight container. The mixture can be stored for up to one month.
Why These Ingredients Matter:
Many of the ingredients used in the blend have traditionally been linked to digestive wellness. Fennel seeds are popularly consumed after meals and are believed to help ease bloating. Ajwain is often used as a home remedy for indigestion, while cumin and coriander seeds may support smoother digestion.
Mint adds a refreshing element, cardamom contributes aroma and flavor, and hing has long been used in Indian cooking to help manage gas-related discomfort. Meanwhile, anardana powder provides a tangy taste that balances the overall blend.
How To Consume It:
According to Kiran Kukreja, the digestive mix can be consumed whenever you experience heaviness, gas, or mild digestive discomfort. Simply mix one teaspoon of the powder in a glass of lukewarm water and drink it after meals or whenever needed.
A Simple Addition To Daily Wellness:
While this homemade digestive mix may help provide relief from occasional bloating and indigestion, persistent stomach pain, severe acidity, or recurring digestive issues should be evaluated by a healthcare professional. For those looking for a natural, pantry-friendly remedy, this traditional blend offers a simple way to support digestive comfort using ingredients already found in most kitchens.
