In a deeply disturbing incident, former Miss India and globally recognized model Priyadarshini found herself at the center of a shocking racial attack at a subway station. Known for representing India at Miss World 2016, Priyadarshini has been a prominent figure in the fashion industry, collaborating extensively with acclaimed designer Sabyasachi and various international and national brands.
Narrating the Nightmare:
Sharing her traumatic experience, Priyadarshini reveals, "I was recently physically attacked and verbally bullied by 5 white people at the subway station—3 men and 2 women. This was a total racial attack."
Facing Racist Remarks:
The attackers hurled derogatory comments, saying, "Dressing up like us doesn't make you western" and "You probably don't have enough space but you should just go back to your f***ing trashy slum country." Priyadarshini, who usually refrains from mentioning people's race, emphasizes, "This is an important scenario where it has to be addressed."
Despite the verbal abuse and physical assault, Priyadarshini kept her composure until she couldn't. She shares, "I couldn't believe it was actually happening to me. She came to attack me again; I blocked her and pushed her off when another passenger (Black) intervened."
Priyadarshini expresses her shock at the audacity of the attackers, stating, "They were clearly under the influence of alcohol, but that is no excuse. There is no excuse to ever physically attack someone. There is no excuse for racial discrimination."
Priyadarshini reveals, "Soon the cops joined in and 'resolved' the matter, but this incident will live with me forever."
Priyadarshini concludes, "I'm shook; I know that I probably shouldn't be, and that is the most depressing part. Thank you for making me feel at home, America."
