Recently, Indian celebrity chef Vikas Khanna made headlines when he congratulated Donald Trump on his victory in the US elections. Khanna, who is known for his culinary skills and his passion for promoting Indian food, shared a picture on Instagram of himself shaking hands with Trump at a dinner at Rashtrapati Bhavan in 2020. The dinner was hosted by India's then-president, Ram Nath Kovind, and was attended by prominent figures like music composer AR Rahman, along with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Khanna Reminds Trump of Promise to Showcase Indian Cuisine at the White House
In his post, Khanna addressed Trump as "Mr. President" and reminded him of a promise Trump made during their previous meeting. “Hello, Mr. President! Hope to cook Indian cuisine at The White House as you promised the last time we met,” Khanna wrote, hinting at a future collaboration where Indian food would be featured in the White House.
The post gained immediate attention, with almost 65,000 likes. But not all the comments were positive. Some fans were excited about the prospect of serving Indian cuisine at the White House, but others expressed shock and disappointment at Khanna's contribution to Trump's victory.
Chef Vikas Khanna Criticizes Trump's Handling of Indian Cuisine at the White House
This new statement seems to contradict Khanna's earlier criticism of Trump for handling Indian food at official events. In an earlier interview on Bharti Singh and Harsh Limbachia's podcast, Khanna had expressed disappointment over the absence of Indian food celebrations at the White House. He said he spoke directly to Trump about it during his visit to the Rashtrapati Bhavan. "Since you are the President, I haven't seen any Indian food events. I haven't even been invited once,” Khanna had told Trump, to which the US President responded by saying they were trying to include more Indian culture.
Khanna Optimistic About Future Collaboration with the White House
Despite this, Khanna says there is still hope. He was highly privileged to bring Indian flavors into the White House every chance he got. "I shall be proud to have Indian cuisine on such an elite platform," he said. "It will be a proud moment for millions of Indians worldwide."
While her Instagram posts sparked conversation, Khanna's love for Indian food culture seems as strong as ever.
