A controversial statement made by VJ Sidharth Bhardwaj on 'The 50' triggered a strong counter reply by eliminated contestant Bebika Dhurve, leading to the TV drama spilling over into the real world. Bhardwaj was accused of using the derogatory term “parlour wali aunty" against Dhurve.
Bebika Dhurve Lashes Out at Sidharth Bhardwaj:
Dhurve refused to be silenced and dismissed the comment and subsequent trolling, stating that she is not bothered by criticism. Fans have reacted positively to her attitude, which has led to new debates on gendered slurs, personal attacks, and the boundaries of entertainment in competitive reality formats.
Controversial Comment Sparks Outrage:
The dispute began when Sidharth Bhardwaj made a personal dig at Bebika Dhurve, stating she looked like a “beauty parlour wali didi/aunty" rather than a contestant. Viewers deemed the comment offensive and discriminatory as it swiftly went viral.
In a recent episode of 'The 50', Bhardwaj and other contestants were discussing the mechanics of the game and the mindsets of the other contestants. The reality show features 50 celebrities competing against each other in physical and strategic challenges within a palace.
“Ek baat bataun, maine jab usse pehli baar dekha, contestant nahi lagi mujhe (Let me tell you one thing, when I saw her for the first time, she didn't seem like a contestant to me)," Bhardwaj remarked during the conversation when he first met Dhurve.

“Mujhe laga beauty parlour wali didi bulayi hai (I thought the beauty parlour sister had called)", he added.
Bebika Dhurve's Defiant Response:
During an interview after being eliminated, Dhurve said that the comment made by Sidharth Bhardwaj did not affect her. She said that people who had nothing to do with her were unnecessarily getting involved to have “clout," and she “doesn't give a damn" about what they say.
“Nobody can roast me. Mai roast karne lag jaun to log khoon ke aansu ro sakte hain (If I start roasting you, people might cry tears of blood)," Dhurve told Free Press Journal.
Dhurve stated that those who whispered behind her back might be “clout-chasing." “I'm very astonished ki jinse meri friendship bhi nahi hai, wo mere bare me kyun involved hain (I'm very surprised that people with whom I am not even friends are so involved in my matters). I don't give a damn about it," she continued.
She asserted that no one could actually “roast" her and that people who criticise her ignore her ability to respond if she chooses to do so. Dhurve also reacted to the derogatory “bhains" remark made by Rajat Dalal.
Bebika Dhurve said that it is not acceptable to speak disrespectfully about any woman and that she was defending all women who have had similar experiences.
