Madhuri Jain Grover, who was recently evicted from Farah Khan and Riteish Deshmukh-hosted reality show 'Lock Upp: Sach Ya Sazaa', has addressed the controversy surrounding her viral “gareeb bacche paida” comment. The remark had sparked criticism online, with many social media users accusing her of being insensitive toward economically weaker sections.
Responding to the backlash, Madhuri clarified that her statement was never intended to discourage anyone from having children.
Madhuri Says Her Comment Was Misunderstood:
In a conversation with IANS, Madhuri explained that her remarks were meant to encourage population growth rather than restrict parenthood based on financial status. “I was talking about having more children. That we should have more children. I didn't stop anyone from having children.”
Addressing criticism over her comments, especially arguments that many successful Indians have emerged from humble backgrounds, she reiterated that her views were not directed at any specific economic class. “I am not talking about the rich or the poor. I am saying that we should have more children,” Madhuri told IANS.
Why She Wants More People to Have Children:
During the interview, Madhuri also suggested that a larger population could contribute positively to economic growth and industrial development. According to her, wealthier families should also consider having more children. “We regret that we didn't do that.”

Explaining her perspective further, she said, “In that, I am adding that the rich people should think more about this. If you do more, the economy will be better. The economy will be better. The industries will be better. When the poor people give birth, the poor will grow.”
Her remarks have once again ignited discussions online, with users debating the economic and social implications of population growth.
"Everyone Has the Right to Have Children"
Madhuri stressed that she was not advocating for restricting anyone's right to become a parent. She said, “Where there is a need to give birth, we are giving birth there? In this hope, out of the 5-6 children, one of them should be born and have a chance. This is happening.” She concluded by emphasizing that parenthood is a personal choice and a fundamental right.
“People are not getting married. So, Everyone has the right to have children. I am not going to take that right away from them. I am encouraging everyone to have more children,” concluded Madhuri.
Madhuri's clarification comes amid ongoing conversations online about her original comment, with opinions remaining divided over her views on family size, population growth and economic development.
