What's the Difference Between Gond and Gond Katira?-
Gond (Edible Gum)
- Heaty in nature
- Used in winter
- Commonly added to the post-pregnancy ladoos and warm recipes like ragi or methi ladoos
- Nourishing and strengthening, especially in the cold weather
Gond Katira (Tragacanth Gum)-
- Cooling in nature
- Used in the summers
- Soaked well in water to form a gel-like consistency
- Added to the sabja water, coconut water, lemon water, or shikanji
- Great for treating severe constipation, acidity, bloating, and even skin dehydration
How to Identify Them-
- Gond Katira: Larger crystals, lighter and much more translucent
- Gond: Smaller, more amber or golden in color
Health Benefits-
- Gond Katira is very rich in calcium and magnesium
- Helps in controlling the blood pressure control and supports overall heart health
- Works as a natural coolant for the summer-related issues

How to Use Gond Katira in Summer-
- Soak a small amount in about 200–250 ml of water
- Let it sit for about 4–5 hours until it becomes jelly-like

- Avoid in the winters due to its cooling properties
How to Use Gond in Winter-
- Roast and add to the ladoos
- Use in Rab, a very traditional postnatal recipe
