  • Earn more, pay less

What if someone told you that you could earn ₹24 lakh without paying any income tax? Doesn't that sound unbelievable? However, it is both possible and fully legal. Shreyaa Kapoor, a financial expert, explains it in simple terms. This smart little tax rule is called Presumptive Taxation, and if you're a freelancer, consultant, or small business owner, it could change the way you think about taxes.

How Presumptive Taxation Works for Professionals

If you're a doctor, lawyer, chartered accountant, or consultant, and your total income in a year is under ₹50 lakh, the government gives you an option to make things simple. Instead of showing every rupee of profit, you can just declare 50% of your turnover as profit. So if you earn ₹24 lakh in a year, you can declare ₹12 lakh as taxable income. Under the new tax regime, with rebates and deductions, you might not owe any tax at all on that ₹12 lakh.

It Gets Even Better for Small Business Owners

Running a small business? You're in luck. If your turnover is up to ₹2 crore, you only need to declare 6% to 8% of it as profit. That means your taxable income could be much lower than what you actually earn legally.

A Word of Caution

Here's the thing—this isn't a free pass to fake numbers. If you show just ₹12 lakh as income and then buy a luxury car for ₹50 lakh, it's going to raise eyebrows. The tax department looks at lifestyle vs. income, so it's important to keep things realistic.
