Report the Issue Promptly: As soon as you notice a defect, report it to the shopkeeper or service provider. Lots of shops have a return policy that figures out the time frame within which you can return or exchange a product.

Request For a Resolution: Request for a solution, which can be an exchange, repayment, or replacement. Ensure that you have any evidence of purchase like receipts or bills, as this will be required for processing your request.

Know Legal Rights: If the shopkeeper doesn't take a defective product or refuses a refund or exchange, inform them about the Consumer Protection Act, of 1986. 

If the shopkeeper still refuses to repay, you can easily file a complaint against the shopkeeper in the Consumer Forum. But before filing a complaint, make sure that you have all suitable documents, like- receipts or bills, photography of defective products, etc. 

How to File a Complaint:

Draft a Complaint: Write detailed information regarding your product including product details, and your conversation with the shopkeeper. Attach all the suitable proof.

Submit the Complaint: Submit your complaint to the District Forum. If the cost of your goods or service is up to or above 20 lakh rupees you can submit your complaint to the State Forum.

Follow-up: Attend the hearings and follow up on your case. The Consumer Forum will check the evidence, hear both parties and deliver a good decision.
