Comedian Jamie Lever recently announced that she would be stepping away from social media, a move that quickly sparked speculation online. Many assumed the decision was linked to the backlash she faced after posting a mimicry video of 'Bigg Boss 19' contestant Tanya Mittal. Jamie, however, has now firmly clarified that her break has nothing to do with the controversy and was instead prompted by personal exhaustion and a desire to reconnect with her family.
"My Break Has Nothing To Do With Tanya Mittal"
Addressing the assumptions directly, Jamie told ETimes that the connection drawn between her break and the trolling was completely misplaced, "This has nothing to do with Tanya Mittal. I don't know how people connected the two things," she said.
Explaining the phrase that sparked speculation, Jamie added, "In my post, I wrote, ‘I lost a part of me' because 2025 has been a very busy year. I have just come back from my US tour. I have done films and other projects. I realized I lost time with my family and that's what I meant by, ‘I lost something this year'."
According to Jamie, the decision to step back was a conscious choice to slow down after an intense year of work, “I needed to detox from social media because it can be exhausting to have to deal with messages and expectations of people."
On the Trolling and Mimicry Backlash
While Jamie acknowledged the criticism she received after mimicking Tanya Mittal, she made it clear that the contestant herself has not reacted to the video, “Tanya has not reacted to my video. I have zero communication with her. I think trolling people has become the new thing," she said.

Jamie admitted she was surprised by the scale of the backlash, especially considering her long-standing career in mimicry.
“I've Been Mimicking People For The Past 12 Years"
Known for her impressions of personalities like Farah Khan, Asha Bhosle, and Kareena Kapoor Khan, Jamie emphasized that mimicry is an established art form, not mockery. “I didn't expect this reaction. I have been mimicking people for the past 12 years, and mimicry has been going on in our country for so many years," she said.
She further explained, “It is an art form and the highest form of flattery. When you mimic someone, it is not considered mockery."
Responding to accusations of body shaming, Jamie added, “When people say things like, ‘You are body shaming her,' I want to tell them that when you are mimicking someone, you are obviously going to use the person's body language. The facial expressions and tonality of the voice require a lot of skill to do that."
She concluded firmly, “If you don't understand mimicry or dislike the video, then don't watch it."
“I Want To Spend Time With My Family Now"
For now, Jamie says her priority is family time, especially after months of constant travel and work, “I have relatives who have come home from different cities. I want to enjoy spending time with them, like sitting together and having coffee."
Confirming that her break is temporary, she added, “I am on a social media detox now, and I will be back next year, which is anyway just a few days away."
