- He spent millions of dollars in his quest to reverse aging.
Bryan Johnson, a 47-year-old tech entrepreneur and influencer, has decided to stop taking rapamycin, which he has been taking almost for five years in hopes of slowing down his aging process. He had used this drug, which is prescribed to patients after receiving an organ transplant, to extend his life span. But upon reevaluation, he concluded that the adverse effects of the drug outweighed the minimal benefits.
Rapamycin and Its Side Effects
Rapamycin is usually prescribed to organ transplant patients to avoid rejection. A few studies suggested that it may increase the life span of animals such as mice, which made Johnson try it. However, the drug created problems such as metabolic disorders and insulin and glucose level issues. After reviewing the research, they decided it wasn't worth continuing the treatment.
Johnson's Ongoing Quest for Longevity
Johnson has spent millions of dollars in his pursuit of reversing aging. He spends around $2 million on various medical treatments with strict regimens that involve observing his health and body closely. His efforts comprise everything from diet to sleep and exercise. In addition to quitting rapamycin, Johnson has tried other radical treatments, such as a whole plasma exchange, in which his blood fluid was replaced with albumin.
A Billionaire's Commitment to Anti-Aging
After selling his business in his 30s, Bryan Johnson is now entirely focused on stopping the aging process. He spent millions of dollars on study and treatment in an effort to live a longer and healthier life, and the battle against aging has become a central aspect of his existence. Don't Die: The Man Who Wants to Live Forever, a recent Netflix documentary, even highlights his struggle.
