Anupam Kher: "Giving Up Is Not An Option In Life..."| Exclusive

Veteran actor and author Anupam Kher, fresh from the launch of his fourth motivational book 'Different But No Less', speaks to Jayveer Singh in an exclusive interview. He opens up about his book, shares inspirational messages, and emphasizes the importance of being a doer rather than just a thinker.

Here are a few edited excerpts of this conversation;

What personal experiences drive your thought process for your book 'Different But No Less'?

My books are all motivational, derived from my life experiences. I've written four books, and each one is driven by my own life journey.

Can you tell us more about your thought process behind writing 'Different But No Less'?

The title is actually the tagline of my film 'Tanvi's Great'. The mother tells her autistic daughter, "You are different but not less." I realized that we all are different but not less. Unfortunately, we tend to treat life ordinarily, and we forget that we're all extraordinary people.

What's the message you want to give to your readers through this book?

Never give up. Giving up is not an option in life. I've been thinking about this for years, and I realized that doing something is what matters. Life is about doing, not just thinking. I'm a doer, and I don't worry about failure.

How do you balance narrating your story with helpful advice for readers?

Life teaches you. My thoughts and lines aren't borrowed. I'm writing about my own experiences, and I'm sharing my fears and shortcomings. When you tell your fears to people, it liberates you.

What was the most meaningful part of telling your story in this book?

"Giving up is not an option." Failure isn't trying; it's giving up. Failure is an event, not a person.

Who would you dedicate this book to?

It's dedicated to three different people: the Indian Armed Forces for their courage and sacrifice, extraordinary souls like Tanvi who remind us that being different is a kind of brilliance, and to all those who never give up.

Do you feel you've been successful in conveying the message you wanted to through this book?

Completing a job is success in itself. The intention behind doing something is what matters. I think the lesson will take some time to register, but I'm happy to have completed the book.
