  • Urges parents to be friends, not authority figures or "bosses"
  • Highlights the need for a nurturing, fear-free environment for growth

In a recent YouTube video, Sadhguru reflected on a common parenting mistake, turning love into pressure. He cautioned that what often begins as care can slowly turn into control, placing unnecessary expectations on children.

When Love Becomes Pressure:

Sadhguru pointed out that many parents unknowingly burden their children by pushing them to achieve what they can't. “Don't make your children's lives miserable by expecting them to fulfil your dreams,” he said. According to him, parenting goes wrong when children are treated as extensions of their parents rather than individuals with their own paths.

Children Are Not Possessions:

Emphasising that children are not property, Sadhguru said parents should not act like authority figures who “own” their kids. Instead, he encouraged a more compassionate approach. “Don't be a boss to your child,” he advised, adding that children need connection, friendship, and emotional support more than constant discipline.

Influence Has Changed:

Sadhguru also highlighted how parenting dynamics have evolved. Today, children are influenced by multiple sources, such as social media, peers, and digital content, reducing a parent's direct influence. In such a scenario, strict control or fear-based parenting can push children away rather than guide them.

Build Trust, Not Fear:

He stressed that if children feel judged or controlled at home, they are more likely to seek comfort elsewhere. Instead of authority, parents should create an environment where children feel safe to express themselves. Trust and understanding, he suggested, are more effective than rigid rules.

The Power of a Positive Environment:

Sadhguru underlined that children absorb the emotional atmosphere of their homes. A nurturing environment filled with love, stability, and calmness shapes their personality more than lectures or instructions. “Let them grow in joy and love,” he said.

Parenting Is a Privilege:

Concluding his message, Sadhguru described parenting as a privilege, not ownership. He urged parents to guide rather than control, reminding them that children are individuals who come through them, not from them. His message was clear: true parenting lies in support, not pressure.
