Most of us lovingly offer fresh flowers during prayers, only to wonder what to do with them once they begin to dry. Instead of discarding these blooms, why not give them a second life? Food influencer Aishwarya Sonvane recently shared a simple and sustainable way to transform naturally dried flowers into aromatic homemade dhoop cones that can be used during daily rituals and meditation sessions.
Made with natural ingredients and free from artificial fragrances, these DIY dhoop cones are an eco-friendly alternative to store-bought incense products.
Why Homemade Dhoop Is Worth Trying:
Homemade dhoop not only helps reduce floral waste but also fills your home with a soothing natural fragrance. The combination of dried flowers, sandalwood powder, cloves, cinnamon and camphor creates a warm, calming aroma that can enhance your prayer routine and create a peaceful ambience.
Another advantage is that you have complete control over the ingredients, making it a cleaner and more natural option for your home.
Ingredients You Need:
According to Aishwarya Sonvane's recipe, you'll need:
- Naturally dried flowers such as marigold, chrysanthemum, or any available flowers
- Dry coconut husk
- Cloves
- Cinnamon
- Kapoor
- Bhimseni kapoor
- Bay leaves
- Chandan powder
- Ghee
- Rose water
The recipe does not require exact measurements. You can adjust the quantity based on the amount of dried flowers you have and the intensity of fragrance you prefer.
How To Make The Dhoop Cones:
Begin by adding the dried flowers, coconut husk, cloves, cinnamon, kapoor, Bhimseni kapoor and bay leaves to a mixer grinder. Blend everything into a fine powder and sieve the mixture to achieve a smooth texture. Next, add chandan powder, a small amount of ghee and rose water. Mix well and knead everything together until it forms a soft, clay-like dough. Take small portions of the mixture and shape them into cone-like dhoop sticks using your hands.
Drying And Storage Tips:
Place the prepared cones under direct sunlight and allow them to dry completely for one to two days. The cones should become firm and fully hardened before use. While adding ghee and rose water, do so gradually. The mixture should be moist enough to bind together but not too wet.
Once dried, the homemade flower dhoop cones are ready to use. The next time your prayer flowers begin to wilt, consider turning them into a fragrant, sustainable creation that keeps their essence alive a little longer.
