- Starting the vrat during Shravan is considered highly auspicious
- The observance focuses on devotion, discipline, and spiritual growth
What if a simple Monday fast could become a path to inner peace, discipline, and a deeper connection with Lord Shiva? For countless devotees, the Solah Somvar Vrat is not just a religious observance but a spiritual journey that gradually transforms faith into devotion. Astro influencer Bhavesh Bhimanathani recently highlighted the significance of this revered vrat, which is dedicated to Bhagwan Shiv and observed over 16 consecutive Mondays.
What Is Solah Somvar Vrat?
One of the most popular Shiva vrat traditions, Solah Somvar Vrat is undertaken with a sincere Sankalp for spiritual growth, devotion, and personal transformation. While the vrat can begin on any Monday during Shukla Paksha, starting it during the holy month of Shravan is considered especially auspicious.
According to Bhavesh Bhimanathani, many devotees begin the vrat with a specific prayer or wish, but over time, the focus shifts toward devotion and surrender to Lord Shiva.
Solah Somvar Vrat 2026 Dates:
The vrat dates vary across regions due to different calendar traditions.
North India:
- Begins: August 3, 2026
- Concludes: November 23, 2026
South India:
- Begins: August 17, 2026
- Concludes: December 7, 2026
Nepal & North-East India:
- Begins: July 20, 2026
- Concludes: November 9, 2026
How To Observe The Vrat:
On the first Monday, devotees are encouraged to visit a Shiva temple and take a Sankalp to complete the vrat with sincerity.
Every Monday thereafter, worshippers can offer water or milk to the Shivling, perform puja and Karpoor Aarti, and chant three malas of the Panchakshari Mantra:
"नमः शिवाय" (Namah Shivaya)
Those unable to perform physical worship, including during menstruation, can continue the vrat through Manas Puja and Manas Jaap with the same devotion.
Fasting Rules And Guidelines:
The vrat is generally observed through Phalahar, which may include fruits, herbal teas, and other sattvic foods according to one's capacity. Devotees are advised to consume a light sattvic meal before sunset on the previous day.
After Pradosh Kaal on Monday, a diya is lit before Bhagwan Shiv, and the fast is concluded with a simple sattvic meal.
Completing The Spiritual Journey:
The vrat traditionally concludes on the 17th Monday with an act of gratitude toward Lord Shiva. Devotees may perform a Rudra Abhishek, Havan, or a simple Jal Abhishek at home or in a Shiva temple.
As Bhavesh Bhimanathani emphasizes, the true essence of Solah Somvar Vrat lies in bhav, faith, and consistency rather than perfection. Even if a fast is unintentionally broken, devotees can continue their remaining Mondays with sincerity and complete the vrat with wholehearted devotion.
