Yuzvendra Chahal On His Divorce With Dhanashree Verma: "I'm Happy In My Life Now..."

Social media personality Dhanashree Verma and cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal made the headlines with their divorce. The ex-couple was often seen taking indirect digs at each other repeatedly. Now, in the recent interview, Chahal has mentioned that he has fully moved on from the divorce, which was finalized in March last year. He reflected on the emotional toll of the separation and explained why he no longer wants to remain stuck in that phase of his life.

"I Am Happy in My Life..."

“It was a chapter in my life, which is over now. I've left that space now. I don't want to remain stuck there," Chahal said, adding that both he and Dhanashree are content in their own lives. “I'm happy in my life, she's happy in hers. What is one going to get by making someone miserable?"

The divorce proceedings attracted massive public attention after reports emerged that Chahal was asked to pay an alimony of ₹4 crore. Subsequently, the cricketer appeared to make subtle references to the amount, once through an Instagram Story commenting on a Delhi High Court order on alimony, which he later deleted, and another time during a playful Instagram exchange with fellow cricketer Shikhar Dhawan.

"It Was Done And Dusted..."

Chahal also courted controversy when he wore a “Be your own sugar daddy" T-shirt during court proceedings, which led to a section of social media users unfairly branding Dhanashree as a “gold-digger."

However, in a fresh interaction with Mashable India, Chahal clarified that emotionally, everything ended the moment the legal process concluded. “It was done and dusted right after stepping out of the court," he asserted.

Dating Rumors And ‘Happily Single' Claim:

Following the divorce, Chahal has frequently been spotted with radio jockey and actor RJ Mahvash, triggering dating rumours online. The cricketer, however, dismissed the speculation, stating that he is “happily single" and that the women he is seen with are simply his friends.

He also revealed that he briefly tried Raya, the exclusive dating app for celebrities, but deleted his account soon after. “I didn't really get the concept of dating apps," he admitted.

Chahal has been subjected to relentless online trolling since his separation, but he believes that comes with the territory of being a public figure. “When people love you so much, there's going to be a little bit of hate as well," he said, adding that he no longer lets it affect him.

The cricketer noted that trolling is not new to him, recalling how he was earlier targeted for his lean physique and teeth. “The one who wants to troll will troll everyone. It's not personal," he remarked.

Battling Depression After Divorce:

In a rare moment of vulnerability, Chahal admitted that the period following his divorce was one of the toughest phases of his life. He revealed that he struggled with depression, which even forced him to skip several major cricket tournaments last year.

“My mind wasn't in the right place when I was going through my divorce," he said. Chahal credited his mentor, Aniruddh Sir from Haryana, for helping him navigate the emotional turmoil. “I used to share everything with him. He helped me a lot to get out of that phase."
