Many of us, while shopping for leather products, think that "genuine leather" is a quality term. But the term is quite misleading. In reality, genuine leather is the lowest grade of leather. It is prepared from scraps of animal hide glued together and treated to look uniform. If you are looking for a durable, high-quality leather product, here are four simple tips to avoid buying poor-quality leather shared by Ashutosh Singh, a personality coach.

1. Check the Label

Full-grain or top-grain instead of "genuine leather" or "bonded leather." Full-grain and top-grain leather is made from good-quality hides. It is a lot stronger and appears better than other leather products. Genuine leather, on the other hand, is made from leftover scraps and has a lower quality.

2. Examine the Texture

Quality leather should display a natural texture with the marks of grains and pores. Leather that is too smooth or perfect might be genuine leather or even a synthetic material. True leather will feel rich and unique to the touch.

3. Do the Smell Test

Real leather smells earthy, while pure leather smells like chemicals. If the product has chemical smells, it might have been processed too much and is probably not true leather at all.

4. Ask About the Source

Typically, high-end stores often give details on where the leather comes from and how it was tanned. If your seller cannot give you the information, it may be a warning that they are selling lower quality.

Through these simple tips, you can ensure you are buying leather that will last and look wonderful for years to come. Stay informed and make wise purchases when shopping for leather!
