In our older days, the elders used to say that every person needs three things to live a good life: Roti (food), Kapda (clothes), and Makaan (shelter). This saying has been passed down from generation to generation, but Monica Sharma humorously shares her own take on it. According to her, we've become so focused on Roti and Kapda that we can't even think about reaching the final goal of Makaan.
Food Delivery Apps: Sweet Talk That Leads to Noodles and Momos!
Monica says, “It's not like I have no money, but no matter how much I have, I either have to eat it or wear it. Every time I open my phone, I get messages from food delivery apps: 'Jaanu, jalebi kha lo!' or 'Jaanu, chai pee lo!' Now, if you spoke to me so sweetly, I'd definitely drink the tea!"
She continues, "One day, I got so many messages, 'Baby, momos khaoge? Baby, noodles khaoge?' And guess what? The baby (that is, she herself) ended up eating a huge bowl of noodles and momos. After that, I started looking like a momos I ate! I had to hire a dietitian who promised me, 'If I can't reduce your weight, I'll quit my job.' Well, now she works as a receptionist in Canada at a supermarket!"
The Shopping Cart Misses Me More Than My Husband Does!
Monica doesn't stop there. She adds, “My husband doesn't miss me as much as my shopping cart misses me. I keep getting messages saying, 'Your cart misses you.' After struggling to shop on those big e-commerce websites, I started buying things live on Facebook and Instagram. You won't believe it—I have so many clothes now, I could stack them up to the roof and use them to make a path to the moon! But the sad part is, I'm still wearing the same old, worn-out T-shirt and pajamas.”
She concludes with a laugh, “Who needs an enemy when we have ourselves? We are self-independent people, and we are enough to waste our own money!”
Monica's humor highlights how, in today's world, we often get caught up in small indulgences and consumerism, forgetting the bigger picture. We may have all the Roti and Kapda we need, but the true goal of achieving a stable and comfortable life (Makaan) sometimes seems to get pushed aside.
